Mud
Mud is the common term used for plaster and concrete in the construction industry. It is in construction where I initially became familiar with these materials. Somehow, though, plaster in particular, has a classic art feel to it. It was reviewing old black and white photographs of Hepworth, Giacometti, Moore, Arp and the likes working in the their studios with plaster that lured me to the material.
I made the works on display here by either casting or using an additive process. In some instances I have incorporated elements of steel, my home base material. Each piece is an experiment that has helped me better understand the potential of this wonderful medium.
